It’s not been a fun week until today. I’ve been moving cross-country, unpacking, and fighting hayfever all week.
But today was different. It was actually fun. Not only did I get some great books for 50 cents each at the Omaha library book sale, I also got to meet and have lunch with Kookiejar! We grabbed our books and then headed out to Panera to eat. That was a treat because I don’t get to eat at Panera very often–and with such good company. We talked books, blogging, and motherhood, to name a few. A very fun and exciting day.
Here are the books I got:
Breathing Lessons by Anne Tyler (Pulitzer)
House Made of Dawn by N. Scott Momaday (Pulitzer)
Ironweed by William Kennedy (Pulitzer)
Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha by Roddy Doyle (Booker)
Farewell Summer by Ray Bradbury
I Know This Much Is True by Wally Lamb
She’s Come Undone by Wally Lamb
Mr. Bridge by Evan S. Connell
Mrs. Bridge by Evan S. Connell
The Way the Crow Flies by Ann-Marie MacDonald
Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver
The Samurai’s Garden by Gail Tsukiyama
The Blue Flower by Penelope Fitzgerald
A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry
The Photograph by Penelope Lively
Stones from the River by Ursula Hegi
The Republic of Love by Carol Shields
A Burnt-Out Case by Graham Greene
The Human Factor by Graham Greene
Greene on Capri by Shirley Hazzard
Time Cat by Lloyd Alexander (children’s book)

Wow! How fun would that be! Good going guys for getting together. Very cool.
I’m glad you had a good time, too.
You should come rifle through my bag of books that I’ve finished with as we have such similar taste in novels. I’ve read six of the ones you bought today and have copies of eight others.
It’s funny that you got a copy of “Paddy Clarke” because after I reviewed it, a couple of other litbloggers told me to check out some of his more comedic novels, so I bought one today. Roddy Doyle got some love from us today, I guess.
Glad you had a great day, a nice break after moving and stuff.
Cool, you got to meet kookie.
Those books? wow, two of my all time favorite books: A Fine Balance and Stones From the River
Happy reading
Wanna know how stupid I am? I JUST realized that you are 3m. I was told about your new blog when introduced to the 888 challenge through A Novel Challenge but they said it was a new blog and I hadn’t checked your old blog in a few weeks so I didn’t realize! Duh!
Suey and Raidergirl: it was very fun to meet a fellow book blogger. Like Kookie said, it’d be great to be able to meet everyone at least once!
In fact, I’ve often thought it’d be great to have an annual or bi-annual book blogger convention.
Kookiejar: Yeah! Maybe we could get together between the book sales and trade books sometime. Wow, the only one I had from your pile was A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian. I haven’t read it yet, though; it’s slated for next year (I hope).
Callista,
Don’t feel bad! I’ve been switching around lately, but this should finally be permanent!
How cool that you got to meet Kookie!! I bet
she was a lot of fun!!
Dang, girl! Now that’s a haul!!
I have to say you are KILLING me with the challenges!!
I LOVE The 888 idea!! But I have NO IDEA if I would
be able to do it!! Completing challenges isn’t my
strong suit…though signing up for them seems to be!!
That’s so neat that you and Kookiejar had lunch together. At Panera Bread! That is definitely one store I could eat my way around…lap 1, lap 2 etc. until they had to roll me out.
What a great selection of books, also. I was pleased to see that you were able to pick up both Mr. and Mrs. Bridge simultaneously. Around 20 years ago, I read one right after the other. Enjoyed the story as well as the Kansas City setting.
Wow, great books on your list! I really like Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver. And I am currently re-reading The Samurai’s Garden by Gail Tsukiyama, which I loved the first time I read it. Like Raidergirl3, two of my all-time favorites are A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry and Stones from the River by Ursula Hegi … I learned about both of these through Oprah’s FIRST book club in the late ’90s. You found some great books!
Wow, great stacks you managed to bring home! I’ve read a few of those and some others are on my wish list. How fun to meet up with Kookie! I’m envious!
[...] don’t know if any of you read my post last September about the Fall library sale, but Kookiejar and I went to Panera to have lunch when we were done book shopping. That day we were [...]
