This challenge lasts for November and December, and the goal is to read at least two Christmas-themed books. For more info, click on the button.
My choices:
- Mr. Ives’ Christmas by Oscar Hijuelos
- Cricket on the Hearth by Charles Dickens
Bonus/Alternate:
- This Year It Will Be Different (A Christmas Treasury) by Maeve Binchy

I was going to sign up for this one on Nov. 1, but it said that it was “closed”. ???
I think it just re-opened! I signed up under the link given in the button.
Two books? That’s not many. maybe…
Stop tempting me! (I think I’ll probably do it too.)
Love the Binchy book, I think I have it here somewhere. I highly recommend The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Parkman, to read with your boys. Hilarious and touching, altogether.
I’m joining this one! BTW, love the look of your blog!
Thanks, 3M! I’m all signed up and posted.
Raidergirl, I’ve never read The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, but have been meaning to for years. I must get to that sometime!
Thanks, Lynne!
This Year Will Be Different is a wonderful book, in my opinion! I think I like it so much because it shows us a less than perfect picture of Christmas, unlike all the catalogs and movies which tend to portray happiness for everyone all the time. I’m anxious to know what you think of it if you read it, because I pull it out every year and read one or two of the chapters.
