Scott O’Dell was one of my favorites when I was younger. I recently re-read Sing Down the Moon, which is one I would definitely recommend, and despite having read it forever ago and having a poor memory for books read forever ago, I seem to remember loving Thunder Rolling in the Mountains, too. I’m also a sucker for books with neat-sounding titles, and these two definitely fit the bill! =D
