I’m better off not saying much about these, but if you’d to find out why I didn’t like them, click for my review. In a word, “Blech.” I most likely will not read more of these authors, except for American Pastoral by Roth because it’s a Pulitzer Prize winner.
- Everyman* by Philip Roth (Worst of 2007)
- The Sea** by John Banville (Worst of 2007)
- Grendel** by John Gardner (Worst of 2007)

I’ve only read Everyman of those three, but I thoroughly agree with you about it!
I’m giving Roth another chance as well, with The Plot Against America.
I haven’t read any of these, and now I’m sure I won’t! Thanks!
What a great idea. I have my Top Ten for 2007 ready to post, but I think I’ll put together a Worst of 2007 list as well.
BTW, I haven’t read any of these. My hubby tried Everyman, but gave up early on.
Fortunately, I’ve read none of them. Don’t you hate it when you have an awful book and feel compelled to finish it? Like it’s going to all of a sudden get better? Usually, not.
Les, I’ll be on the lookout for your list! Glad to see you’re getting Dreamers of the Day!!!
