BTT 2007 Nominees

btt button

  1. What fiction book (or books) would you nominate to be the best new book published in 2007?
(Older books that you read for the first time in 2007 don’t count.)
My answer: The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett was the best book I read that was published in 2007.
  2. What non-fiction book (or books) would you nominate to be the best new book published in 2007?
(Older books that you read for the first time in 2007 don’t count.)
My answer: I read The Top Ten by J. Peder Zane, but I wouldn’t consider it for this.
  3. And, do “best of” lists influence your reading?
My answer: To a certain degree, yes. I like to look at the lists, but if I don’t find anything I’m interested in I don’t try to read one ‘just because it’s on the list.’

First the bad news. . .

I turned 40 some time this week.

Even worse, my basement got flooded. How does a basement flood in freezing weather? When someone on a hill above you tests a well for over 12 hours. It was the city and/or development company of the new subdivision that allowed the pump to run that long, so most likely they will end up paying for it, but still…

Thank goodness it didn’t happen while we were gone. We probably won’t be able to go ahead with our Christmas plans now, either, because we’ll have to deal with tearing up carpet and our wood (not real) floor. It was a very nice finished basement. Emphasis on ‘was.’ Anyway, things could always be worse. No books were affected, and no one in my family has been hurt or killed in a wreck or other accident.

Look for the good news in the next post.
