What fiction book (or books) would you nominate to be the best new book published in 2007? (Older books that you read for the first time in 2007 don’t count.) My answer: The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett was the best book I read that was published in 2007.
What non-fiction book (or books) would you nominate to be the best new book published in 2007? (Older books that you read for the first time in 2007 don’t count.) My answer: I read The Top Ten by J. Peder Zane, but I wouldn’t consider it for this.
And, do “best of” lists influence your reading? My answer: To a certain degree, yes. I like to look at the lists, but if I don’t find anything I’m interested in I don’t try to read one ‘just because it’s on the list.’
But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. (Jude 1:20-21, ESV)
I’ll have to look up The Uncommon Reader. I’ve never even heard of it.
Me too. I will check out the “best of” lists but it is still the story plot that determines if I will pick them up.
Exactly! I don’t read a book just because it makes a list. It has to interest me.
I like getting ideas from other readers so I’m off to look at The Uncommon Reader!
