What fiction book (or books) would you nominate to be the best new book published in 2007?
(Older books that you read for the first time in 2007 don’t count.) My answer: The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett was the best book I read that was published in 2007.
What non-fiction book (or books) would you nominate to be the best new book published in 2007?
(Older books that you read for the first time in 2007 don’t count.) My answer: I read The Top Ten by J. Peder Zane, but I wouldn’t consider it for this.
And, do “best of” lists influence your reading? My answer: To a certain degree, yes. I like to look at the lists, but if I don’t find anything I’m interested in I don’t try to read one ‘just because it’s on the list.’
For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. (Psalm 84:11, ESV)
I’ll have to look up The Uncommon Reader. I’ve never even heard of it.
Me too. I will check out the “best of” lists but it is still the story plot that determines if I will pick them up.
Exactly! I don’t read a book just because it makes a list. It has to interest me.
I like getting ideas from other readers so I’m off to look at The Uncommon Reader!
