I turned 40 some time this week.
Even worse, my basement got flooded. How does a basement flood in freezing weather? When someone on a hill above you tests a well for over 12 hours. It was the city and/or development company of the new subdivision that allowed the pump to run that long, so most likely they will end up paying for it, but still…
Thank goodness it didn’t happen while we were gone. We probably won’t be able to go ahead with our Christmas plans now, either, because we’ll have to deal with tearing up carpet and our wood (not real) floor. It was a very nice finished basement. Emphasis on ‘was.’ Anyway, things could always be worse. No books were affected, and no one in my family has been hurt or killed in a wreck or other accident.

Blech! I had that happen to my house once, but we had lived in it very long and not much was lost. A few books were though
It’s tough and bad timing. I hope you get it straightened out soon. You’re lucky it’s being paid for too. Still, it sucks.

I notice the survival of the books came before the people. Interesting!
So sorry about your mess, that’s the last thing anybody needs this week. At least now there is no where to go but up.
Raidergirl, I re-worded it at the end to make better sense. Of course my family (and even my cats) come before my books. The books are next in line, though!
So sorry to hear about the flooded basement. Unfortunately, I know that kind of disaster all too well. Glad everybody is safe and too much wasn’t ruined.

Happy belated birthday! I turned 46 on the 13th. Feels a bit odd to be on the backside of 40, but I’m trying not to let it bother me.
So, so sorry about the flooded basement!! That is my worst nightmare. We’ve had minor seepage over the years, but nothing like a real flood in which you have to tear everything out. What an awful time of year to deal with this. Sending you positive thoughts in the days to come.
