Wendy was the wonderful hostess for this challenge. Thanks so much, and I’m looking forward to more notables in 2008!
I committed to reading ten and finished ten, though I did switch out some titles. I loved the top three, which were truly outstanding books. I’m really glad I read the middle of the pack, and I could have done without the last two.
Here they are, ranked in order of enjoyment:
- The Road by Cormac McCarthy
- Suite Française by Irene Nemirovsky
- Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
- The Translator by Leila Aboulela
- Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
- The Echo Maker by Richard Powers
- Lisey’s Story by Stephen King
- Last Evenings on Earth by Roberto Bolano
- The Inheritance of Loss by Kiran Desai
- Everyman by Philip Roth

Congratulations, Michelle! I made such a sorry showing for this challenge, managing only four books. Luckily, I didn’t set a numbered goal so I can count it as a success even if it doesn’t quite feel like it. There are many more books from the list I want to read still and will no doubt in the future.
