Africa Reading Challenge
January 1 – December 31, 2008
Dave from Siphoning Off A Few Thoughts is hosting the Africa Reading Challenge. He is encouraging participants to read a minimum of six books which:
…either were written by African writers, take place in Africa, or deal significantly with Africans and African issues.
I’ll choose at least six from the following:
- The Translator by Daoud Hari (Sudan/Chad)
- Life & Times of Michael K by Coetzee (South Africa)
- The Only Road North by Mirandette (multiple countries)
- Things Fall Apart by Achebe (Nigeria)
- Purple Hibiscus by Adichie (Nigeria)
- Zenzele by J. Nozipo Marrire (Zimbabwe)

The Poisonwood Bible
Morality for Beautiful Girls by Alexander McCall Smith
The Kalahari Typing School for Men by Alexander McCall Smith
This is another very tempting challenge! I do enjoy reading books set in Africa.

Seriously, how do you find time to read all the books you sign up for? I am in awe.
Man….I am amazed at all the challenges you are able to complete!! I actually just signed up for your Pub challenge. I usually don’t read newly published books right away, but there are a few I will maked an exception for….and I think I can find enough to complete the challenged!!
I just picked up Purple Hibiscus from the library on Friday!! I’m hoping it’s good!!
I just got an ARC of The Translator…I skimmed it a little so far and it looks really good! I can’t wait to sit down and read the whole thing.
