4:30 pm CT. Today I woke up and discovered that outside the wind chill factor was -24 F! Decided to stay indoors and read, read, read. I hope to finish two books today. The first one is complete, being the 2008 Newbery award winner, Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! by Laura Amy Schlitz. I didn’t like it at all at first, but by the time I got to the story about a shepherdess singing to a grieving ewe, I was enjoying it. The book is subtitled Voices from a Medieval Village, and contains points of view from the blacksmith’s daughter, the tanner’s son, the falconer’s son, the glassblower’s daughters, among many others. The illustrations by Robert Byrd were excellent. Also, the book is a sturdy library-bound one. I just love new library-bound books.
The second book I hope to finish is 2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke. I had wanted to read at least 1-2 books for Carl’s Sci-Fi Experience, and I knew that if I didn’t just start one, it wouldn’t get done. So I took this one from the bookshelf, started reading, and read halfway through already. I LOVE the movie. I’m a bit of a sci-fi nut, as I’ve mentioned previously on this blog. The book is excellent so far. HAL isn’t even introduced until halfway through the book, and I can’t wait to finish it.
I’ll give an update on my progress in a few hours.

It’s about that cold here as well. Good day to stay in and read. I had to run out to get the paper, oh my it is COLD!
Brrr…. I would have stayed under the covers too! I didn’t do as much reading as I hoped but I had the opposite weather – it was beautiful here so I went out to enjoy it.
Man, your weather sounds a lot like mine!! I think it’s about -20 wind chill right now. I HATE this weather!!
You need a vacation in Mississippi, right about now. We’re in that perfect season, right as things are just beginning to bud out and it’s warm but not yet hot. The bees are out and so are a few mosquitoes, but not en force.
I love library-bound books too. In fact, the only thing I love more than a nice new library-bound book is a nice old one, with slightly yellow pages that have gone all soft around the edges. And they smell good too. Yup, reading can be a multi-sensory experience.
