All other things (like price and storage space) being equal, given a choice in a perfect world, would you rather have paperbacks in your library? Or hardcovers? And why?
My answer:
My favorite format is the trade paperback. It’s light, portable, and most importantly, easier to pack and move if you relocate. When you have over 50 book boxes to move like I did, your movers (my husband and teenage son in my case) will thank you if most of them are paperbacks!

Hi 3M – I’m working on a review for the Triple 8 Challenge, and I can’t seem to find the button for it. I swear I saw one somewhere. Can you help??
Last time I moved the books were a problem but the Star Trek video collection was even worse. I’m slowly moving over to DVD just in case.
I couldn’t really decide on my answer. If it has words in it, I’ll take it.
Whilst in actuality I am the same as Chris, I prefer Trade Paperback as well.
Moving a lot made me get rid of a lot of my books. I wasn’t married and *I* didn’t want to lug the heavy boxes, even if they were paperbacks! *grin*
Good point, about the moving of books in boxes. And, paperbacks are easier to mail to other people.
I know what it’s like to move with 50 or so boxes of books. Unfortunately (from the moving pov) most of my books are hardcover.
Yes, not only paperbacks are easier to read & carry, but they are much easier to move when it comes to packing!
I love trade paperbacks, too! My friends who helped me move a couple years ago appreciated the paperbacks, too.
I never thought about the different kinds of paperbacks. I do like trades as well.
I’m having to face this right now, a prospective move! I love my books enough I don’t mind a bit of effort to haul them but everyone else complains, so I do the book boxes myself. I try to pack them in boxes that are half books/half clothing or towels or such. They all still get there, and each box weighs less! But that said, I have been acquiring many more trade paperbacks lately…
I can see how having mostly paperbacks would prove to be less backbreaking in a move.
Although I enjoy reading books in almost all formats, I too prefer trade paperbacks when it comes right down to it.
Indeed, I can’t imagine lifting 50 boxes of harcovers;o)
Hope you and your family feeling better than you were last week.
I tagged you for a meme on my blog.
i just joined the tbr challenge, and i thought i’d check out your blog.
