Sunday Salon 03.02.08

sundaysalon2.pngToday I read just a bit of Cat’s Eye by Margaret Atwood and a couple of Carol Shields’ short stories. I guess it was a Canadian Sunday. I’m a bit behind in the Canadian Reading Challenge, but I have a great line-up coming up. I’m excited to read Anne of Green Gables in the 100th anniversary year. Here are the ones I have to read before June 30:

Cat’s Eye by Margaret Atwood (almost done)
Elijah of Buxton by Christopher Paul Curtis
Swamp Angel by Ethel Wilson
The Road Past Altamont by Gabrielle Roy
Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
Anne of Avonlea by L.M. Montgomery
Life of Pi
by Yann Martel
Unless by Carol Shields
The Collected Stories of Carol Shields (reading a few short stories per week)
Kanada by Eva Wiseman

I’m also participating in the Russian Reading Challenge and the Africa Reading Challenge in 2008. The Japanese challenge was fun, too, and I’d really like to read more by all three authors. Reading world literature is definitely one of the best changes in my reading habits over the last year.

The first 18 books of 2008 broken down by author nationality:

  • US – 6
  • British – 4
  • Japanese – 3
  • Icelandic – 1
  • Australian – 1
  • South African – 1
  • Canadian – 1
  • Sudanese – 1

33% American and 67% Rest of World. Not bad so far.

What are your world literature goals for 2008?
