Thanks, Joy, for hosting this again! Last year after the challenge, I won The Only Road North from Joy, and I just finished it last month. Thanks for that, too; it was an excellent book!
I usually have to be forced to read non-fiction these days, so this challenge will be good for me. I’ll pick 5 from the following, making sure I have at least one that’s not a memoir:
- Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi (graphic novel memoir)
- Persepolis 2 by Marjane Satrapi (graphic novel memoir)
- Blankets by Craig Thompson (graphic novel memoir)
- The Borden Tragedy by Rick Geary (graphic novel true crime)
- Darkness Visible by William Styron (memoir)
- X Stands for Unknown by Isaac Asimov
- Reading Lolita in Tehran
- With Borges by Alberto Manuel
- Darkness Visible by William Styron
- The Sum of Our Days by Isabel Allende
- A Girl Named Zippy by Haven Kimmel

Persepolis was so good. There is a movie too, but I haven’t seen it. Lolita was OK, I found it a bit long, but hten I find most nonfiction a bit long! I recognize the authors of the rest, but not the books.
Didn’t Styron write Sophie’s Choice?
In other news, I’m sure I saw your southern Reading challenge list on my blogreader? Did you accidentally post it? I’ve done that before. Quite a Year for Plums was a great southern book, plus, it’s a Q, and a science theme book.
I’m really looking forward to Persepolis, and yes, it’s the same Styron.
Oops, hit publish instead of save. Looking forward to Quite a Year for Plums, though, for all the reasons you mention!
Welcome to the Non-Fiction Five Challenge, 3M! I’m glad you’re joining us. I want to read the Persepolis books, too. I’ve got a mile long “have to read now” books, that my head is spinning.
What a great list. I loved A Girl Named Zippy. Also really enjoyed Darkness Visible and Quite a Year for Plums. It will be fun to hear what you think of them.
