silk.JPGonchesilbeach.JPGYou gotta love novellas. I love reading two books in one day. I’m almost finished with The Castle by Franz Kafka, but yesterday I just didn’t feel like reading that one, so I picked up Silk by Alessandro Baricco and On Chesil Beach by Ian McEwan. I actually didn’t really care for either one, but I do have a sense of accomplishment in crossing those two books off my list. Going to short books always helps me get back to the one I was avoiding. Does that work for anyone else?

I started a new challenge this week, the 1% Well-Read Challenge, which is basically just reading 10 books from the 1001 List in 10 months. These were on my reading schedule anyway, so why not start a challenge for it? Join!

Another new challenge is the Southern Reading Challenge hosted by Maggie Reads. All you have to do is read 3 books by southern authors that have a southern setting. The challenge lasts from May 15 through August 15.

  • Regarding On Chesil Beach – I would never believe that I would wait with such breathless anticipation for a couple to “do it” – but I did with that book.

I missed out on The Southern Reading Challenge last year (because I found challenges after Maggie started it). I have been hoping she would run it this year. YAY! Now, I have to think of my books….

    Happy Sunday!

  • I joined the 1% challenge also. I am slowly making my way through the list. I’ll check out your list later today. Have a great day!

  • Ew, I want to do the 1percenter, too! Dang, so many challenges so little time! Thanks for joining the challenge and I look forward to your fabo posts. ;)

  • I will not be sucked into another challenge that will eat up my writing time; I will not be sucked into another writing challenge that will eat up my writing time; I will not be sucked into . . . you get the point.

But I will love reading about your reading. Thanks.

  • Yay, new reading challenges! I’m off to check them out!

  • I didn’t care for On Chesil Beach either. I thought it could have bee even shorter then it was! My entire book group loved it but I preferred Saturday.

I’ve been seeing this challenge everywhere and am so tempted!

  • Sorry to hear you didn’t love On Chesil Beach. I would echo Jill’s comment about waiting for a couple to do it. LOL
