Read-a-thon update #3

readathon3_lg.jpgFinished The Penelopiad. I liked it. A lot.  It took me 1 1/2 hours to finish 146 pages.

So far I’ve finished two short books and listened to Disc 1 of Lolita.  The total time spent reading is 5.5 hours.  I’ll have to calculate the page count later because of  listening to CDs, but it shouldn’t be a problem because I also have the book.

Right now I have to run another errand, so I’ll be listening to Lolita again.

I hope everyone else is having fun as well.  I haven’t been able to participate in the mini-challenges quite yet or look at all the blogs I want to, but hopefully I’ll have more time for that later.

Read-a-thon Update #2

penelopiad.JPGI’m reading my last Canadian Challenge selection, The Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood. I’ve finished 50 pages in the last 45 minutes. It’s another short one, only 196 pages. So far I’m enjoying it quite a bit. I just love Atwood!

Taking a little break now to eat and read some blogs…

Total time reading so far: 4 hours

Read-a-thon Update #1

readathon3_lg.jpgI wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to participate in the read-a-thon this time, but it ended up that I was able to, and I’m very glad of it!

At the start of the read-a-thon (12 Eastern), I was doing some required errands. What to do? An audio CD, of course! So I was able to listen to the first disc of Nabokov’s Lolita, read by Jeremy Irons. Disgusting subject, but very well done by Irons. That took about 1 1/4 hours.

Next I read The Bear by Marian Engel, a book read for the Canadian Challenge because it was extremely short — only 141 pages. A woman alone on an island with a bear. Umm, some disturbing scenes, to say the least. When I initially looked up the info for this book, it said the bear and Lou, a librarian, had an intimate, but not s*x*al relationship. Wrong. Weirdness, of which I won’t go into detail here. It only took 2 hours to read, though, and now I have only one more book read to complete the Canadian Challenge.

Now off to read some updates of fellow readers!
