The End of the World Challenge included reading books which were apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic and was hosted by Becky from Becky’s Book Reviews.
The books I read:
- Daughters of the North by Sarah Hall
- Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood
- Children of Men by P.D. James
My favorite by far was Children of Men by P.D. James because it had some strong Christian themes to it. I’m really looking forward to seeing the movie now, though I know it doesn’t follow the book exactly.
My least favorite, surprisingly, was Oryx and Crake. I love Atwood, but this book was much too gritty for my tastes.
Thanks, Becky!! I really love the dystopian genre, and I am especially grateful to have read Children of Men.

I finished this one recently too. My favorite that I read was Unwind.
really? I loved Oryx & Crake. Children of Men is on my reading list, but I made the mistake of seeing the movie…
I really wanted to do this challenge, but alas, it was not to be. Oh, well. I’ll still try to read the books, but I crossed Oryx and Crake off my list after Jill’s review. I’d like to read Children of Men as well, maybe I’ll add it to my Books to Movie list instead.
Good for you for completing another challenge!
Amy, I’ll have to read Unwind sometime.
Jena, it was just a little too vulgar and gritty for my tastes. I love Atwood in general, though.
Raidergirl3, yeah, it’s probably my least favorite Atwood so far. I really did like Children of Men and want to see the movie soon.
I didn’t realize Children of Men isn’t on my wish list till you mentioned it, so thanks for that! I’m glad to know you enjoyed it; I’ve meant to read it some day.
