Weekly Geeks #23: Challenges

Dewey’s Weekly Geeks #23 was to re-do a previous week. I chose to organize and update my challenge list. I’m not going to complete some challenges that I joined, but that’s okay. It’s been a great reading year so far, and challenges and fellow book bloggers really help on the journey.

These are listed in reverse order of completion and/or challenge end date, so completed challenges are at the bottom of the list.  Further updates can be found at this link.

Decades Challenge Complete!

08decades.JPGI read a lot more consecutive decades in 2007, but I still had fun reading my choices and enjoyed the challenge.  I just decided to list all the books that fit a particular decade.

My favorites were probably the oldest book, Dracula and the first three books of the Anne of Green Gables series. Maus I and II were my favorites of the newer titles.

Book to Movie Challenge Complete!

Challenge lasted from September 1 through December 1.

The goal was to read at least 3 books that have been made into movies. I really loved ALL of my choices.

I liked the Children of Men book much better than the movie;  and whoa, they changed the storyline a ton.  I did like Clive Owen and a very few things that were different, but overall I say read the book.

Dracula and Anne of Avonlea both received a rare 5-star rating.  I started the movie with Gary Oldman in it and still want to watch it, but I didn’t think it was appropriate for my kids so I’ll have to watch it later.  I got the Anne movie adaptations from Netflix, and I can’t wait to watch those.

Last but not least, it was a re-read, but I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the audiobook of The Outsiders with my family.  A few days later we watched the movie and all of us thought it was great; it follows the book almost exactly.  It was really fun to share both the book and the movie with my teenage sons.

Thanks, Callista, for hosting this again!

What I read:

  1. Children of Men by P.D. James
  2. Dracula by Bram Stoker
  3. Anne of Avonlea by L.M. Montgomery
  4. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
