6th reading leg stats: 61 minutes, 63 pages.
Reading Lost in a Good Book by Jasper Fforde.
In total: 439 minutes and 418 pages
Average: .95 pages per minute
Had to take a little break to make dinner and talk with family. We had enchiladas. Also, some pics of my reading spaces. Sorry they’re not that clear — they were taken from my cell phone.
3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?
Finishing up In the Company of Cheerful Ladies by Alexander McCall Smith
4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day?
Not really. This is my 4th readathon, so my family is used to it by now. Thankfully, I have two teenage sons and a husband who can take care of themselves for a day!
5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?
A few, but nothing major. That’s to be expected!
6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?
That I enjoy it so much every single time!!!
7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
None. Great job!
8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again next year?
Nothing really. I know what works for me by now!
9. Are you getting tired yet?
A little. I only got 5 hours of sleep last night, so I might have to take a little nap later!
10. Do you have any tips for other Readers or Cheerleaders, something you think is working well for you that others may not have discovered?
No, everyone is so different in what works for them. It’s really trial and error.
5th reading leg stats: 76 minutes, 72 pages. Reading Lost in a Good Book by Jasper Fforde. Oh, those time loops! (Thursday has just found out about Landen for those who’ve read it) This was a good choice for the read-a-thon, that’s for sure!
In total: 378 minutes and 355 pages
Average: .94 pages per minute
3rd reading stretch stats: 96 pages, 97 minutes. Most of the way through Natasha and Other Stories by David Bezmozgis. Jewish Russian immigrants in Canada. Liking this book very much, though the title story is a bit racy.
Anyway, so far I’ve read for 1.25 hours and read 64 pages. I’m on page 252 in Petropolis by Anya Ulinich, which I’m really enjoying. I’m going to keep this first update brief so I can read as much as I can in the early going!
Well, I’m up and at ‘em after only about 5 hours of sleep. I’ve put the coffee on will have a quick breakfast before start time. I’m pretty tired this morning and will probably have to take a mini-nap during the afternoon so I can stay up all night.
These are the books I’ll be reading from today:
In the Company of Cheerful Ladies by Alexander McCall Smith (already started)
Blue Shoes and Happiness by Alexander McCall Smith
I’m so excited for the read-a-thon tomorrow. I’m writing this about midnight CT. Why so late? I had a fantastic time tonight at an author event featuring Alexander McCall Smith. What a hoot! The man could really be a stand-up comedian. I absolutely loved it. I took some notes and a few pictures so hopefully I can share that with you during the read-a-thon tomorrow.
This will be my 4th read-a-thon. Yes, I’ve participated in all of them so far! I wanted to take a look back on my stats from the previous three times to see how they compare. Last time I had to do a few things during the day so that is why my results weren’t too hot. The reading times I give are pure reading times and don’t include breaks.
Readathon I: 12 hours, 704 pp.
Readathon II: 10 hours, 634 pp.
Readathon III: 9 hours, 470 pp.
On average, it looks like I read about a page a minute. My goal for this readathon is just to beat my previous best of 12 hours, even if it’s 12.25 hours with 710 pages. That will be very difficult to do, but I’m excited to try!
