Update 1 Readathon 2009

Anyway, so far I’ve read for 1.25 hours and read 64 pages. I’m on page 252 in Petropolis by Anya Ulinich, which I’m really enjoying.  I’m going to keep this first update brief so I can read as much as I can in the early going!

Happy Reading!

Good morning, Readathoners!

Well, I’m up and at ‘em after only about 5 hours of sleep.  I’ve put the coffee on will have a quick breakfast before start time.  I’m pretty tired this morning and will probably have to take a mini-nap during the afternoon so I can stay up all night.

These are the books I’ll be reading from today:

  • In the Company of Cheerful Ladies by Alexander McCall Smith (already started)
  • Blue Shoes and Happiness by Alexander McCall Smith
  • Petropolis by Anya Ulinich (already started)
  • Natasha and Other Stories by David Bezmozgis
  • Lost in a Good Book by jasper Fforde
  • House of Paper by Carlos Maria Dominguez
  • Ficciones by Borges
  • anything else the catches my fancy
Happy Read-a-thon, everyone!

Pre-Readathon Goals

I’m so excited for the read-a-thon tomorrow.  I’m writing this about midnight CT. Why so late?  I had a fantastic time tonight at an author event featuring Alexander McCall Smith.  What a hoot!  The man could really be a stand-up comedian.  I absolutely loved it.  I took some notes and a few pictures so hopefully I can share that with you during the read-a-thon tomorrow.

This will be my 4th read-a-thon.  Yes, I’ve participated in all of them so far!  I wanted to take a look back on my stats from the previous three times to see how they compare.  Last time I had to do a few things during the day so that is why my results weren’t too hot.  The reading times I give are pure reading times and don’t include breaks.

  • Readathon I: 12 hours, 704 pp.
  • Readathon II:  10 hours, 634 pp.
  • Readathon III: 9 hours, 470 pp.

On average, it looks like I read about a page a minute. My goal for this readathon is just to beat my previous best of 12 hours, even if it’s 12.25 hours with 710 pages. That will be very difficult to do, but I’m excited to try!

Now I better get some sleep!
