Sunday Salon 07.26.09

sundaysalon2.pngI’m still alive.  I’m still painting outside and inside.  And….  I’ve been able to listen to several books on CD which have been excellent!  I’ve listened to The View from Castle Rock (4 stars), The Help (4.5 stars), and The Poisonwood Bible (4.5 stars).  I’ve also read Unless by Carol Shields (4.5 stars).  Painting while listening does have its advantages.  Wow, these books were really incredible.  The Help was an excellent choice for the Southern Reading Challenge.  Magnificent sense of the South.  And I’ll have lots to say about The Poisonwood Bible in my review.  Religion, politics, and much to think about afterwards.

I should be able to get to most of my reviews (of those titles anyway) by the end of the week.

  • I am about half way through The Help and I adore it so far! Glad you enjoyed it. Poisonwood is on my list, too.

  • Sounds like a great summer – reading great books and getting something accomplished.

What I remember most about The Poisonwood Bible was the palindromes. Awesome!

  • I loved The Poisonwood Bible, definitely on my reread list. Congrats on getting some painting done! I’ve been after my husband to get started on ours for 2 months now…

Pam, isn’t The Help fantastic? Such a strong debut novel!

Raidergirl3, it does feel good doing both simultaneously. You’re right about the palindromes. Although I was listening instead of reading, I appreciated them as well.

Tammy, thanks. Painting is sometimes hard to get started but the end results are great! Poisonwood was so much more than I thought it would be. I would have loved to have read this in a group.
